Irrigation of agricultural crops
All over the world, water is the most valuable natural resource. Israel is located in difficult natural and climatic conditions with limited water resources and meager rainfall. Economical and efficient use of water is the main requirement of modern agriculture, and this task is feasible!
Various equipment and irrigation systems offered by us are designed for maximum economic effect and minimum damage to the environment, soil and water sources.
IRRIGATION IN ISRAEL
Most of the territory of Israel is located in the desert and semi-desert natural and climatic zone. Precipitation occurs only in the winter, from December to April, and is distributed extremely unevenly across the country - from 700 mm in the far north, and only 50 mm in the south.
Farming without irrigation is virtually impossible. Today, about 1.2 billion cubic meters of water are used for irrigation per year. Two-thirds of the water needs are covered by natural sources and one-third by using brackish groundwater and treated wastewater.
The photo shows the farming village (moshav) of Ein Yaav. Greenhouses belonging to the village's residents - farmers - are visible near the village.
To ensure water supply, an all-Israel water pipeline was built, supplying water from the only large natural water source in the country - Lake Kinneret, and a branched water distribution system, supplying water to literally every field. Ponds-reservoirs for collecting rainwater were built and continue to be built.
The problems of water shortage forced us to look for a way out of the current situation. On the one hand, it was necessary to provide agriculture with water for irrigation without infringing on the household needs of the population for water and the needs of industry, and on the other hand - to ensure food security of the country.
This problem was solved in several directions:
Maximum efficient use of water in agriculture through the use of the latest technologies and equipment for irrigation.
Wide use of purified wastewater for irrigation, primarily of field and industrial crops.
Use of groundwater, including that with a high salt content.
Recently, large-scale desalination of seawater has been used, the first powerful industrial desalination plant was put into operation near the city of Ashkelon, several more powerful desalination systems have been built and are operating. There is no water shortage in Israel today.
- Israel supplies water to Jordan, the Gaza Strip and the Palestinian Authority.
The Jordan River, the country's main waterway.
Over the past 30 years, agricultural production has increased more than fivefold, while water consumption has remained virtually the same. Such amazing results have been achieved primarily through the use of new irrigation technologies based on drip and low-volume sprinkler irrigation. These technologies were developed in Israel, and we are proud that today our industry is the world leader in this field. More than 80% of the equipment produced is exported abroad, and every year the volume of deliveries grows, and enterprises master dozens of types of new, even more efficient products. Farmers in many countries of the world, including such highly developed countries as the USA, European countries, Japan, Canada, Australia, prefer Israeli equipment due to its excellent performance, reliability, durability and reasonable prices.
The Israeli approach to the problem of irrigation is a comprehensive approach. You cannot achieve maximum results by simply taking a drip irrigation hose, connecting it to a water tap and expecting miracles. Today's irrigation is a unified system of water supply and distribution, working elements (drip irrigation pipes and sprinklers), automatic control and management systems, fertigation devices (supply of soluble fertilizers together with irrigation water), environmental control systems, plant condition and microclimate regulation.
DRIP AND SPRINKLER IRRIGATION
The main advantage of drip irrigation is that water is supplied directly to the root zone of the plants being grown and in strictly required quantities. The second type is low-volume drip irrigation with a water consumption of up to 200 grams per hour per dropper, widely used in greenhouses, especially when using low-volume technologies on a substrate.
Various sprinkler designs are used in gardens, when each tree has a personal sprinkler, and in greenhouses (for watering and maintaining a given air humidity, as well as for cooling).
The unique knowledge and experience of Israeli specialists in the field of irrigation is used abroad in many projects in different countries, the construction of new and reconstruction of existing irrigation systems.
Drip irrigation with a flow rate of 1-8 liters of water per hour per dripper, with a water efficiency of up to 95% is used for efficient irrigation. New drippers, resistant to clogging, are applicable for irrigation using, among other things, purified wastewater.
Drip irrigation with a water flow rate of 200 grams per hour - for small-volume substrates. The unique characteristics of this method allow for uniform distribution of moisture throughout the entire volume of the substrate and dramatically reduce water leakage into the drainage.
Drip irrigation, with the placement of drip pipes inside the soil, at a depth of 20-40 cm, keeps the soil surface dry and is not afraid of frost.
Large-scale experiments using purified wastewater for irrigation have been conducted in recent years in several large farms for growing cotton and corn. Today, almost all wastewater is treated and sent for irrigation. Result: 85% of wastewater is treated and reused in agriculture. Enormous savings in clean fresh water. Ecology: the volume of dirty wastewater discharge decreased from 100% to 15%! An excellent solution for Green Technologies.
Low-volume sprinkler irrigation is widely used in gardens and when installing an individual sprayer with a capacity of 30 to 300 liters per hour at each irrigated tree or plant. Watering plants at a set time to reduce water evaporation. This allows you to create optimal conditions for growth and fruiting. Water efficiency reaches 80%.
- Sprinkler irrigation is best suited for crops that require continuous irrigation. Water use rate is 70-80%. Sprinklers are also effective for regulating the microclimate and protecting against frost.
