The production of planting material by the method of green cuttings is an effective, and in some cases the only possible way to propagate valuable ornamental, floral, fruit and vegetable plants. The only strict requirement for this method of plant propagation is maintaining the humidity in the greenhouse at a level close to 100%
Why?
The cuttings do not have roots, and until the roots are formed, the plants can receive moisture for their development only through the leaves. The second requirement is that the water should be sprayed into a fine aerosol, like a fog, which allows the surface of green leaves to be constantly moist.
There are many different fogging systems for green cuttings. Fogging systems vary in configuration, complexity and cost. We recommend an inexpensive, simple, DIY 4191 fogging system with a water flow rate of 12-20 liters per nozzle per nozzle. The system is inexpensive, easy to install, and what is important, it works at a fairly low water pressure. 1.5-2.5 atmospheres. The optimum pressure is 2.0-2.2 atm.
Green cuttings are carried out in small greenhouses. It is easier to maintain the required temperature and humidity conditions in them. For planting prepared cuttings or stalks, plastic cassettes filled with substrate are used. The cassettes are used in a size suitable for the plant species. For example, for grafting roses or grapes, cassettes are needed slightly larger than for grafting carnations.
Rooted cuttings can be grown or planted for further cultivation in a greenhouse or open ground. Plants for green cuttings have high productivity since the area of planting (cuttings) is quite high. For example, for green grape cuttings, you can use cassettes with 5x5 cm cells, and for carnations - 2.5x2.5 cm. The density of plants in this case is from 400 to 1600 plants per square meter. The rooting time for various cuttings is quite short and ranges from a few days to 2 weeks. Thus, in a small green cutting plant, for example, with an area of 30 square meters, during the summer season, you can get from several tens to several hundred thousand rooted cuttings of various plants.

Special mini sprinklers for fogging plants Model 4191. Superfine atomization of water, which allows reaching air humidity close to 100%.
There are different options and methods for installing such sprinklers. The simplest is to use a plastic stand, 25 or 35 cm high, and connect to a plastic supply pipe, through a special fitting and a thin plastic tube.
In the photo on the right, you can see how easy it is, and in the photo on the left, a sprinkler for vertical installation, complete with a check valve, a hose and a device for connecting to a pipe located at the top of the greenhouse.
For pipelines, it is recommended to use plastic pipes (not metal at all!) With a diameter of 3/4 - 1.0 inch.
Plungers and valve.
If you are using rigid polyethylene pipes with a wall thickness of about 1.5 millimeters, then to connect to such a pipe, you must use a special threaded plunger. For pipelines, you can also use high-quality soft pipes (hoses) with a wall thickness of 0.75 mm ... To connect to such a pipeline, a choke plunger is used. (In the photo next to the threaded one) In order to prevent the remaining water from the pipeline from dripping onto the plants in the form of large drops when the water supply is stopped, it is necessary to use a special valve that opens the flow of water to the sprayers only when a certain pressure in the pipeline is reached, for example, 1.0 or 1.5 atm. and closes at a pressure in the system of 0.4-0.7 atm. In the photo on the left.
Such systems are mounted both with the upper arrangement of the nozzles and with the lower one. We recommend placing the nozzles at the top of the greenhouse, as shown in the top picture on the left, but in some cases, they can also be placed in the lower position. Bottom placement is usually used for film tunnel greenhouses, which have a small height, as in the picture on the left, for this, sprayers are placed above the soil surface at a height of 80-100 cm on metal stands and connected to the main pipe with thin tubes.
It should be noted that for effective atomization, it is necessary to have sufficient water pressure in the system. For each type of spray, the required pressure is usually 3-6 atmospheres, and for model 4191 sprinklers it is only 1.5-2.5. The installation of sprinklers is possible in two versions: on stands or on a suspension. There is no fundamental difference in these two mounting methods, you just use the one that suits you best.
Usually, plants for green cuttings are mounted inside existing greenhouses, on tables on which cassettes with cuttings are installed. Arches are installed above the table and the table is covered with plastic wrap. Very favorable conditions for plants are created, due to the fact that in a small installation volume, it is enough just to maintain the optimal conditions necessary for rooting.
Another important point. When rooting, you need to reduce the illumination. Best of all, this can be done with a shading mesh. The net can be hung over the cutting machine or simply draped over the foil. The grid shades and diffuses light, which protects the plant leaves from burning, since if direct sunlight hits the leaves, then water droplets act on them as lenses and focused sunlight can damage or even burn through the leaves. For shading, special shading grids with a degree shading 30-60% Photo on the left.
