(From the response to a request from a client on growing onions for greens.)

Dear Mr. Kruglyakov,

You have asked us a very difficult task. The technology of growing onions in Israel is very different from Russian. It may sound unusual, but we grow onions through seedlings, so the fraction of samples in the composition of the crop is practically absent. For growing onions, very high-quality hybrid seeds are used, giving a standard leveled yield.

From an economic point of view, cultivation through seedlings turned out to be more cost-effective, in terms of product quality, the yield is exceptionally even and standard.

We got acquainted with the design of your hydroponic plants, and it seems to me that it makes sense to think about growing both onions and other green ones, using the technologies used in Israel and in most other countries, for the production of green crops.

You were interested in the supply of pick onions for your farm. The cultivation of green onions from a sample is possibly profitable for Russia, due to the availability of this very sample, but as I understand it, you are aimed at the industrial production of onions and greens, and therefore, I would recommend that you familiarize yourself in more detail with modern technologies and crop varieties.

Onions - samples, by definition, are absent from our producers for one simple reason: technology, agricultural technology and seeds are designed to obtain a programmed harvest. That is, if a farmer plans to grow this year, for example, a peninsular onion, with a yellow peel and a bulb diameter of 6.5 centimeters, he will order seedlings for himself, with the already set parameters of the finished product, and seedling producers will offer him varieties onions that best meet his requirements and in the future, on the basis of an agreement, by the set date, will supply him with the required amount of ready-made onion seedlings.

Here are some examples of greens used in production. In addition to onions and parsley, we grow basil, dill, mint varieties, fennel, celery, various types of salads and other greens in large volumes.

Seedlings of onions are grown in special greenhouses and then supplied for planting in the ground. Direct sowing into the soil is not used, due to the instability of the expected result and a very high consumption of seeds. Thickened seedlings of onions with direct sowing into the soil also lead to the production of bulbs of various sizes and non-standard sizes. growing through seedlings, also allows you to get up to two harvests of onions per greenery per season and ensure a constant supply of fresh green onions to the market. The use of different varieties and types of onions also solves this problem. For the supply of greens for sale from early spring to late autumn, you can also use inexpensive tunnel greenhouses, especially in the southern regions.

A prerequisite for obtaining a guaranteed yield is the use of irrigation. The above photos are examples of two watering options: Sprinkler for dill and drip for onions.
